Louka, a down-on-his-luck concert musician, agrees to a bogus marriage with a Russian woman for money. When she takes off for Germany, leaving her five-year-old son behind with her new husband, it is now up to Louka, as his legal father, to look after him. The frightened boy speaks only Czech, but the pair learns to communicate with and finally love each other.
